Aurelio’s cooking classes are held on a beautiful Tuscan country estate set in a green oasis punctuated with vineyards, olive groves, oak and beech woods. A perfect place to find a true connection with mother nature, feed the soul and pick up the tricks of the trade! Nestled in the hills south of the city of Lucca, the fifty acre property is often visited by native animals like foxes, wild boars, hares, wild rabbits, ducks and deers. With a deep respect and an unwavering passion for the territory, the owners – husband and wife – are adamant in preserving long-held traditions, such as hand-harvesting the olive trees, a laborious act of love towards nature. And this is how, in our opinion, olive oil turns into liquid gold!

Cooking Classes

Master the fundamental techniques of Italian cuisine, so you can start to get creative. Join us as we cook with seasonal ingredients from farm to table, as well as savouring the excellent vino from Aurelio’s own vineyards, as well as an extra-virgin olive oil that is to die for! Aurelio will guide you with his infectious love for everything Tuscan, in preparing a three-course meal with antipasto, primi and delicious secondi piatti. We then share a celebratory lunch with all of our day’s creations.

Aurelio Barattini

Executive chef, instructor and restaurateur, Aurelio was born into the food industry. Literally. He was raised above L’Antica Locanda di Sesto (Lucca), a restaurant that has been owned by his family for the past three generations. He is a great advocate for the genuine flavors of the Food of Tuscan Farmers, thanks to the great working relationship his family established since the 1900’s with local food producers in both Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. He and his family also excel in producing an exquisite extra-virgin olive oil and premium wine.

Now a professional Executive chef with over a decade of experience, Aurelio’s mission is to preserve a century-old family legacy of unmatched hospitality and culinary skills. He travels across cultures to share his passion for old-world methods with food lovers, students and professionals. Aurelio also acts as a Restaurant consultant and is often called overseas by businesses seeking to set up Italian restaurants. His experience in hosting gala events for Italian Embassies abroad and for VIP clients from Monte Carlo to Beverly Hills, hasn’t changed his down to earth approach to life. A cooking class with Aurelio is like walking into a culinary wonderland, a true feast for the senses!
